Joining this waka

Our wānanga are supportive, mana-enhancing spaces where your experiences and whakaaro are listened to and respected.

Your roopu will have at least three Kaiako & Kaitautoko to facilitate your learning journey, all of whom are graduates of this kaupapa.

We look forward to welcoming you into this waka.

About this Mixed-Delivery Cohort

This 15-week journey covers all the same content as our 20-week journey, but some of it is delivered in-person during a 2-day wānanga. In 2024, we held the first mixed delivery cohort, with the ā-kanohi wānanga in Kaikoura, and this year in Ōtautahi.

In 2026, the ā-kanohi wānanga will be held at Te Awhina Marae in Motueka, just outside of Nelson.

What does the 2-day wānanga involve?

Te Awhina Marae in Motueka has been booked for Wed 6th & Thu 7th May 2026. Our wānanga hōtaka runs from 9am - 4.30pm each day. It will include a mixture of kaiako kōrero, group discussions and activities, and kemu (games) to bring the kaupapa to life for everyone.

We are grateful to the Rata Foundation, who are covering hire costs for the marae, and kai for everyone for both days. If you would like to stay at the marae, overnight accommodation will be available.

You will need to cover any other travel costs for the wānanga.

We understand that everyone’s journey is different, so we offer multiple payment options to support you. When you click 'Enrol now,' you will see the available payment options to complete your enrolment.

If you are applying for funding, please select the 'Funding Requested' payment option. A $50 deposit is required to secure your place under this option. If your funding is expected to be paid after 30 April 2026, please instead enrol in the next cohort once it becomes available.

Please email proof of your funding application to accounts@tupunaparenting.maori.nz
